Orthotic therapy

These are prescription medical insoles, made from non-weight bearing casts/mould of your feet. Our podiatrists are passionate about ensuring that every individual is aware of their foot mechanics, lower limb strengths and how this can impact their overall gait and health.

Custom foot orthotics/orthoses are scientifically proven to help with foot, leg and shin, hip and back pain by controlling your foot posture and lower limb alignment. It is important that you understand the exact purpose of your orthotics so that you can understand the treatment and expected outcomes.

The process of prescribing a custom orthotic is detailed and involves the following steps:

  1. Gait analysis: A process that allows our podiatrist to further understand how you walk and be able to identify any abnormalities in your body mechanics including the feet, legs, hips and upper body as it is all interrelated.
  2. Biomechanical examination: An assessment that allows our podiatrist to measure your Neutral (the position at which your body functions most efficiently) and where you are in relation to this position. This process is imperative in making an accurate orthotic prescription and prescribing excercises.
  3. Casting/molding of the foot: At Foot Health Podiatry, we are currently using Plaster and 3D foot scans technology to take a mold of your feet. This process allows the podiatrist to capture your feet in the neutral position for optimal effect.

Other forms of orthotics include:

  1. Semi-custom foot orthotics – our podiatrists obtain a tracing of your feet; however, they have minimal control over the orthotic prescription.
  2. OTC/off the shelf foot orthotics – are available for sale on the day at the clinic or, our podiatrists will provide you with the most suitable off the shelf orthotic device for optimum results.

Book your appointment today with one of our podiatrists and enquire about how you can order your foot orthotics, in addition you get a full analysis of your gait and foot biomechanics.
